Bethune-Cookman defeats Jackson State MEAC/SWAC Challenge 2019 in Atlanta

ATLANTA – Bethune-Cookman Head Football Coach Terry Sims and the Wildcats defeat Jackson State during the MEAC/SWAC Challenge 2019 at Georgia State Stadium by a final score of 36 to 15 in front of 23,333 people. Quarterback Akevious Williams is back from a knee injury he suffered last October. Williams helped lead the Wildcats in the comeback win over JSU out of the SWAC and captured MVP honors in the process.
AKEVIOUS WILLIAMS NAMED MEAC/SWAC OFFENSIVE MVP
“It just feel great coming out here and starting the season off one and oh with the team,” Akevious Williams said after the game while holding his MVP trophy. “It’s just all thanks to my o line and the guys around me. The receivers are the ones that made plays for me and they just did their job and just came out with the victory. And were just proud to be out here together and cherish the moment.”
COACH TERRY SIMS TALKS X’S AND O’S
B-CU Head Football Coach Terry Sims is (28-17) in his 5th season leading the Wildcats. He’s impressed from a coaching standpoint with the effort and energy his guys showcased in the MEAC/SWAC Challenge.
“Always, always about finishing and that’s our theme this year were going to finish every ball game. We’re going to finish regardless of the situation if it’s time left up on the clock we got to keep playing,” Terry Sims said. “Coach John Hendrick and his staff their great football team, well coached football team, they play hard we saw that during the game. They played hard until the end so we knew we weren’t going to come in and have a cake walk. But our guys came through, we pushed through, we finished and we made plays when we need to.”
PLAYING FOOTBALL FROM ATLANTA TO ORLANDO
The Bethune-Cookman Wildcats have 3 home games at Daytona Municipal Stadium beginning with Morgan State on 10/5, Norfolk State Spartans on 10/19, and South Carolina State on 10/26. B-CU will play 7 more road games in 2019. The Wildcats play at Miami Hurricanes on 9/14, at Mississippi Valley State on 9/21, at Howard on 9/28, at NC Central on 10/10, at Delaware State on 11/9, and in Greensboro at the Defending Celebration Bowl Champions North Carolina A&T on 11/16. The highly anticipated annual cross state rivalry game versus FAMU is scheduled on 11/23 in the Florida Classic at Camping World Stadium in Orlando, Florida.
B-CU TEAMWORK MAKES THE DREAM WORK
B-CU’s Akevious Williams was in the zone versus Jackson State making 16/29 throwing completions for 144 yards, and 1 touchdown. Williams also rushed for 53 yards, and 1 touchdown. “Oh, great defensive play, defense started playing lights out and offense just picked up the momentum and kept going,” said Akevious Williams. “So we just thank the defense for holding us down for so long.”
UNFORGETTABLE GAME
B-CU’S senior safety Tydarius Peters had two solo tackles, and one assist versus JSU. “It was a great victory, we came out ready to play, we had a little slow groove early in the game but once we felt it we started rolling with it,” said Tydarius Peters who grew up in Jayess, Mississippi.
“Jackson State, I had a lot of old teammates and old players I had knew so today’s victory was great, and I had a whole bunch of my family part of today.”
MEAC/SWAC CHALLENGE 2019 & HURRICANE DORIAN
Coach Terry Sims and the Bethune-Cookman Wildcats are enjoy Southern hospitality after being delayed to return back to their Daytona Beach, Florida campus due to Hurricane Dorian. B-CU was able to lift weights at Georgia State University. The Wildcats practiced and enjoyed food at Clark-Atlanta University in Atlanta, Georgia.
B-CU VERSUS MIAMI HURRICANES
The B-CU versus Southeastern Louisiana game on September 7th is cancelled due to Hurricane Dorian. B-CU will return to action on the road versus Miami Hurricanes on September 14th kickoff 4 p.m. at Hard Rock Stadium.
